Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Thanks for having me today. I’m Michelle Hughes, a romance author from the beautiful state of Alabama. I currently have 30 books self-published and one published with Kindle Press after winning a Kindle Scout nomination.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Forbidden (Book One Fantasy Isle) is my latest book. I’d written a book series called Fantasy’s Bar & Grill but I missed the guys from Fantasy’s so much I had to bring them back for a spin off series. It’s a steamy book about forbidden pleasures that take place on an island off the coast of Australia.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Being normal has never been my thing so that’s a loaded question. I write whenver the urge hits, which is usually all the time.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I mentioned above I wasn’t normal, right? I’m not really influenced by other authors or books. I’ve been a dreamer for as long as I can remember and I take those dreams and write them into books. Does that make me my own influencer?
What are you working on now?
I have three more books (at least) planned for the Fantasy Isle series, so I’m working on those. I’m also working on a behind the scenes project with another author, but I was told if I spoke about it to look for the men in black.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Bookbub is the best, if you can book them. I’ve never had a submission accepted, although my Kindle Press publisher may have for Cowboy Sanctuary. Other than that? Faith and pixie dust?
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t take yourself too seriously. Some books make it, others don’t. Write because you love writing and not because you want to be famous. If you get lucky along the way all the better.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t listen to people selling less books than you are. I’m amazed at all the book promotion crap out there when they don’t have a basis for selling their own books.
What are you reading now?
I wish I had time to read. My time is spent writing.
What’s next for you as a writer?
NYT Bestseller list? Seriously though, wherever the book gods lead me is what happens next.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Would it be terribly rude to say Tears of Crimson, because I wrote it? I based that book off of dreams I’ve had from the age of 15 and it’s still very dear to my heart.
