Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an author who writes in varying genres. I have penned romance novels that range from historical fiction to contemporary, but I also enjoy writing cozy mysteries, children's books, and educational resources. As a ghostwriter, I created more than thirty-eight novels and under my own name I have written more than a dozen books.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is entitled Marshmallow Milkshakes and Missing Persons. It is the first book in the Buenaventura Beach Mystery Series. My favorite author is Agatha Christie, so I wanted to try my hand at creating a mystery Christie might enjoy.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don't do this so much anymore, but I used to stand while I was writing. I have one of those desks that moves up and down, so the rule was that I wrote while I stood and edited while I sat.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am constantly inspired by the work of Agatha Christie, but I also have gleaned a great deal from the dramas written by Shakespeare. I want to play with words the way he did and I try to incorporate as much dialogue as possible. My love of historical romances stems from my reading of Gilbert Morris' works.
What are you working on now?
Now that I've finished the first book in the Buenaventura Beach Mystery Series, I'm diving into Book Two: Frost Sips and Foul Play on the Fairway. It was inspired by a work by Agatha Christie, but also, my dad is an avid golfer and I wanted to create something he might want to read.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I haven't found a great method yet. I've tried a few things, but have yet to find a combination that I think works well for me and my books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I'd like to tell new authors and those who are thinking of writing books that they probably already have a story inside them somewhere. The trick is to tap into it and start writing. I know that advice seems lackluster and mostly like encouraging people to employ common sense, but I wholeheartedly believe that authors should start by writing what they know, and so, when someone feels they've got a unique story to tell, they ought to go for it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be your best self… I was given this advice while participating in the Ohio's Junior Miss Scholarship Program. Instead of striving for perfection or pursuing greatness, be the best version of yourself that's possible.
What are you reading now?
I just finished reading Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano and I started re-reading Jane Austen's Mansfield Park.
What’s next for you as a writer?
In November, I will be releasing a Christmas-themed book.
What is your favorite book of all time?
My favorite book is indubitably Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It is Austen's wit that draws me back in continually and I find something new each time I embark upon a re-read.
