About Monumental Silver Linings:One Sexual Assault Survivor’s Quest for Justice by Mackenzie Severns:
Mackenzie Severns is a typical fifteen-year-old when an exchange trip to Peru thrusts her life into chaos. Eager to fit in, she lets her guard down, and is drugged and raped at what was supposed to be a safe celebration.
Guided by a Peruvian lawyer, she seeks justice from the local courts, but corruption is rife in Peru, and victims are usually silenced. With school to attend to back home and a new legal system to learn and navigate, Mackenzie’s life becomes a nightmare of botched psychological evaluations by bribed and unethical legal experts, bought or threatened witnesses, and warped public opinions.
With her whole family at a breaking point, this strongminded American girl with determination to see justice being served fights on.
Will her fight be in vain? Will her friends stand by her side?
Read this journal-style account of a real-life fight for justice in a world that often finds it easier to avoid the subject of rape.
This emotional rollercoaster of courage, betrayal and resilience will never cease to keep you turning the page.
