Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi there. I’m excited to be here at pretty-hot.com. I live in Minnesota, USA and am a publisher as well as an author. I am the founder of Melange Books, LLC, a house that publishes for ‘every reader’s taste in literature. I was a writer first and was first published in 2003 with my first novel, an historical Scottish romance, The MacAulay Bride.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Rugged Edges, a contemporary western (set in Texas) romance. Who isn’t inspired by a rugged cowboy?
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Now that I run a publishing house, my only unusual trait is not being able I guess to write as much as I like. But that’s ok as it gives me the opportunity to publish all of the other fine authors we have at Melange. We also have two imprints, Satin Romance for romantic novels and Fire and Ice for Young Adults for young and new adults.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a huge fan of a local Minnesota author, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss. I was first introduced to romance novels by reading her books. Also, Betina Krahn.
What are you working on now?
My current wip is a 3 book series about three men in small town northern Minnesota looking for brides. Currently the series is titled, The Brides of Harmon Junction. No telling when the series will be finished but book 1 and 2 are nearly both complete. I believe in writing the series first to make sure all odds and ends in the books mesh and make sense and all ends are tied up.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I admit I am not the best promoter and back in 2003 when I was first published yes there was the internet but not as many opportunities to promote. I am happy to see so many new places (including pretty-hot.com) available now! I do tweet almost every day now though and yes I do have a website at www.nancypirri.com though I think most readers don’t check out websites so much as find authors in so many other ways offered such as here at pretty-hot.com. Also, now that I am a publisher I try and promote more for my authors than myself.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Absolutely. Have a social network up and running BEFORE publishing your first book. Whether indie or with a publisher the more you can do to promote yourself, whether through a website or blog, being active on twitter, instagram, etc. can only help you build an audience of possible readers for your future publications.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep butt in chair and devote time to writing and soon the novel will be finished. It takes discipline.
What are you reading now?
I am really hot into mafia romances. Finding the balance of a bad boy who in the end has good intentions is something I love and I have read many–some so good I couldn’t put them down to go to sleep at night. I hope to write one some day.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan on operating Melange Books for quite awhile so my own works will be far and between in releasing, but I will continue writing my Brides of Harmon Junction series and hope to publish it in the next two years.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Wow, this is so hard to answer! I don’t think it’s possible to narrow it down to one book! I would say though it’s an older book is The Wolf and the Dove was my favorite and I recently read it again and feel the same about it. In recent days I read Pam Godwin’s Sea of Ruin and that book absolutely is memorable, well done and blew me away.
