Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Olivia Nicol. I’m a self published author and poet. I’ve published over 10 books on amazon. I’m 31 years old and reside in Texas. I’m a wife and mother. Aside from spending time with my little family, I enjoy writing poetry, short stories, and fanfiction. I also love watching professional wrestling.
You can find my other books on Amazon. Just look under the names Olivia Nicol or Liv Kalay Hernandez.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I just published a new poetry book.
Under Constant Darkness. It was inspired by two inspirational wrestlers who are now Christians, Nikita Koloff and Sting. The “bonus poems NK and SB” in the book are dedicated to them.
About Under Constant Darkness:
As the world grows bleak, we need a reminder to never lose hope or faith. These poems are meant to be a reminder of that. God’s promises last forever. The Bible is a book of prophecy. In a world filled with darkness and despair there is still light if you know where to look. The poems in this book are inspired by scripture and the ever changing world. Enjoy the rhymes and maybe find beauty and hope in the words.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unusual, I’m not sure. I’m a sporadic writer. It’s whenever the mood strikes me. I like to visualize an actual actor or person as the character I’m writing about. It helps me develop them.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many. I love poetry. I loved reading Shakespeare and the classic English literature in high school. That will always be influence on me. I love inspirational people and stories. They really build me up. My biggest influences right now are wrestlers, namely Sting, Nikita Koloff, that older generation that has a lot of knowledge and experience to share.
What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on two projects. One is my hopefully, my first nonfiction book. A faith based book. The second is another fictional love story. I’m a suckered for those.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Ha, I don’t really promote them. I’m way too shy and nervous. I usually post the links to the book all over Twitter and Facebook.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Share your story. Even if it’s bad. Too many times I’ve heard that self published authors bring the market down. Who cares? If writing is what you love, do it. Put your story out there. My books are badly edited, but I’m still proud my stories are out there.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t be afraid. It doesn’t matter if you make profits or not. I don’t care about selling my books. I just like the fact that my words are out there in the world.
What are you reading now?
Nothing at the moment. I’m open to suggestions. My to be read list is long b
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to write a western or a young adult story, but I want to finish working on my nonfiction book first. I’d love to write all genres.
What is your favorite book of all time?
This requires some thought. For a long time it was Dracula, but as you grow your tastes change. I’d have to say, Little Women. I’ve read it over and over again since middle school.
