Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written five novels in total. Three dark comedies, Burn, Rock Solid and Trust Me for the Vancouver Series. One stand alone Vampire novel called The Disciples of Coont Draculi and Loser which is the first in a five book series set in Thailand.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel is entitled “Loser” was inspired by the endless stream of single men who arrive in Thailand. A lot of them with their head in the clouds. Some of these men are sadly taken by bandits dressed in high heels with big brown eyes. The novel is about one brother who arrives in Pattaya after he discovers his younger brother has been caught in a similar honey trap.
The novel delves into the gritty underbelly of Pattaya, while also revealing Thailands captivating beauty and deep spiritual essence.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I set a goal of 1500 plus words a day – 365 days a year – regardless of how much my mind tells me I need to be cleaning the fridge, or pulling ticks off the dogs, or any other escapist thoughts it throws my way.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I would say that the late Elmore Leonard is my biggest influence. Also the UK’s Alan Bleasdale and the late Andrea Dunbar for the sheer rawness of their work.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on another novel to follow “Loser” in the Thailand series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Pretty-Hot Books is my favourite.
Goodreads.
Amazon author profile page.
Facebook.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you wish to write novels you need discipline. Everything and everyone, including yourself, will do their utmost to distract you. Follow a plan and know the path you want to follow. Write for you and no one else. Don’t be frightened to allow the story to take you where it wants to go.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t argue with stupid people – Mark Twain –
The actual quote is;
“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.”
I’ve witnessed this first hand when people have refused to argue with myself.
What are you reading now?
The grapes of wrath – John Steinbeck
What’s next for you as a writer?
Over the next ten months I will finish the last four novels to complete a five novel thriller series set in Thailand.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Here’s four:
The old man of the sea – Ernest Hemingway
The dead zone – Steven King
The top of the hill – Irwin Shaw
Out of sight – Elmore Leonard
