Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Colorado, but grew up in San Antonio, and have lived in Arizona for 27 years. I currently have two dogs, Buddie and Clyde, and write on multiple topics, including a historical non-fiction about my great-grandfather, my own memoir about my experiences as a 20 year deputy sheriff and I am finalizing two more books, a true crime novel and a YA book I am co-writing with my daughter
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recently published is Hellbent Anthology, a collection of journals kept by my great-grandfather and his friends from a road trip they took from Ohio to California in 1923. It was inspired by the knowledge that my great-grandfather wanted to publish it, but passed before he could. After my mother passed in 2021, I didn’t want the family history to disappear, so I decided to put it out there. My personal book, Cyber Creeps, is about my cases and experiences in law enforcement, and specifically Internet Crimes Against Children. It was inspired by the number of people who said I should talk about my cases after I retired.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I just start writing whatever pops into my head, and clean it up in editing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read almost anything. Sci-ci covers the gamut of Robert Heinlein, Douglas Adams and the entire Star Wars collections, through fantasy of J.R.R. Tolkien and Jim Butcher, and modern writers , Patterson, Cussler, Clancy, and W.E.B. Griffin, and non-fictions and histories. I try to take elements of many authors’ writings, and use it to help inform my own writings.
What are you working on now?
I have a true-crime novel about intergenerational criminality in editing, and I am in the process of writing a YA romantic/fantasy with my 12 year old about a zombie in love.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far I have used LinkedIn and Instagram, but had good luck with knights on Fiverr
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what you love and you will love what you write.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you are going through Hell, walk like you own the place.
What are you reading now?
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, Mission Possible, Kindred, On Spiritual Warriors and Shadows at Dawn
What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue the YA series and another quasi-true crime
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (both the whole series, not just the first book by that name)
