Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a Romanian children’s book author-illustrator based in Italy.
My favorite things during childhood were reading and drawing in her grandparents’ library and observing the world outside — from ants and pebbles to clouds and trees. Although I put drawing on hold for a while, I slowly came back to it in my late 20’s and realized I wanted to tell stories through picture books. I learned the art of picture book creation, visual storytelling and illustration from various online courses and platforms.
After the birth of my daughter, I became inspired to write as well. I have so far written one picture book, Inside, but have more in the works.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest picture book is called “Inside” and it makes learning the basics of mindfulness easy. This book’s idea was sparked by the birth of my daughter and the long moments spent holding, rocking, talking and singing her to sleep. I wanted to help her understand her inner world – her thoughts, feelings and memories and have better tools to deal with life’s challenges.
“Inside” Picture Book will help you offer a gentle introduction to mindfulness through simple words and vibrant pictures that will help children understand their inner world—the “inside” where thoughts, feelings, and memories come and go. But the self stays.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
It might seem unusual that I wrote and edited this picture book many times over in my Notes app on my phone. It was the easiest way to write with a newborn in my arms.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Ann Whitford Paul’s picture books and guidance on how to write, so I can say that she is a big influence.
What are you working on now?
I am now working on promoting my picture book, “Inside”, and I will soon release a hardcover version of the book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I talk about my book with words and images on social media – Instagram, LinkedIn etc.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write a first draft then edit, edit, edit x dozens of times.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Edit your book thoroughly and don’t get attached to an idea or details.
