Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
For years, I kept my darker writing to myself. The few times that I shared it, the reactions were extreme. Some were appalled at the dark undertones and storylines, some telling me they wanted more.
I realized then that TABOO meant something different to each person, and that there was always going to be someone who wasn’t happy with what they experienced. It was time to stop letting other people dictate the content I put out in the world, so I started writing what I wanted to write, not what I thought other people wanted me to write.
To date, I have four erotica books out, two standalone and the first two in a four-book series, with more in progress. I also write horror and thrillers.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is Dirty Talk: Volume 2, and it’s a handful of short erotica stories. When it comes to inspiration in this genre, it’s really just what people tell me they want to read about. I have a group of friends and readers that I’ll reach out to when figuring out topics for stories. Whatever gets the most votes makes it into the book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can’t write without the ring my mother gave me when I published my first book. I know it’s superstitious, but it works for me. I also have to have music on when I write. It helps me to get a flow going and keeps me from wandering off and getting stuck in an Internet ‘research’ loop.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Sylvia Day, Jennifer Worrell, Pebbles Lacasse, Stephen King, Vivian Murdoch, to name a few. I have a long list of people that I have met on this journey that inspire or influence me almost daily.
What are you working on now?
I’m taking a break from erotica to work on two psychological thrillers. I can’t reveal too much, but I can say that the MC is female and a badass.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I spend a lot of time on social media, supporting others and sharing my work. My website is a big part of that (www.sayreambrosio.com). My marketing budget is slim, so I also take part in a lot of book swaps and promotions through Bookfunnel and StoryOrigin.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
DON’T GIVE UP! There are going to be times when you want to throw in the towel. Don’t. If writing is your passion, make room for it. When we stifle our passion or dream, we can never truly be happy. I learned that the hard way, but once I realized it, things turned around.
Also, show up in the world like you deserve to be seen and your story deserves to be heard. Have confidence in yourself and others will follow.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My grandmother told me not to let anyone take away my dream, including myself. Took me a while to follow that advice, but I did eventually and it was the best thing I did.
What are you reading now?
I have four books I’m reading at the moment:
Make Something Wonderful (a book about Steve Jobs)
Inside Out by Lor Gislason (splatterpunk horror)
Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner
Sick! Stories from the Goop Troop (splatterpunk horror – multiple authors)
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ve recently pitched to a few publishing houses and agents, so now it’s patiently going through that process and hoping for the best outcome. I’ll also be working on the last two books in the Dirty Talk series while going through that.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Okay, now this is going to sound weird, but it’s the dictionary. When I was little I would read anything I could get my hands on and I read the dictionary cover to cover. I was amazed that there were so many words in the world and that I didn’t hear a lot of them in everyday conversation. To this day I still enjoy learning new words and regularly stop while reading to look them up if I need to. Granted that’s a lot easier now than it was back then with all the technology.
