Having a stark choice of fighting teens on the city streets or helping them find their way in life, Kev Chilton knew which way he wanted to go!
Choosing the path of mentorship over the chaos of city streets, Kev Chilton has dedicated his journey to uplifting teenagers, steering them away from conflict and towards a brighter future. Through a series of empowering ‘How-to’ guidebooks for teens, he’s become a beacon of support, transforming the lives of teenagers. Chilton draws on his own journey, from navigating the challenges of city streets to becoming a guiding force, and with a series of empowering ‘Teens’ Guide’ books, he not only understands the struggles but illuminates the path forward.
For most of his working life, Kev Chilton was an inner-city cop, a detective, dealing mainly with murder and other serious crime. However, he joined the police as a 16-year-old police cadet.
He was tasked with helping young offenders, which quickly became his speciality. He noticed that by simply listening to the problems young people were concerned with, the majority were prepared to listen to him back.
He was able to build trusting relationships with most, who were then happy to listen to and act on his advice. Many responded positively and moved confidently into adulthood.
Kev arranged youth clubs and attended schools where he gave regular talks, and always had an open-door policy where he encouraged anyone with a problem to talk privately with him.
The results were excellent, and he was never happier in his job than when he was able to redirect a young person’s life onto the right path.
He became very
He became very effective in setting up and operating specialist juvenile squads, particularly geared towards helping those who had gone off the rails.
It was a fulfilling time in his life, and it helped him understand the constantly evolving challenges teenagers face as time passes. More specifically, as times change, so do the needs and circumstances of young people.
Now, he is proud to utilize his extensive experience to make a positive impact. He is particularly attuned to the unique issues that young people are currently grappling with, and one of his goals is to bridge the gap between them and the adults in their lives, such as parents, caregivers, and teachers.
As part of his efforts, he has written a five-book, ‘Teens’ Guide’ series aimed at providing valuable guidance to those who are struggling with the complexities of growing up. This, Teens’ Guide to Making Friends, is book one in the series.
Within these books, Kev has identified the most common challenges teenagers face on their journey to adulthood, discussed the reasons behind these issues and offered practical solutions for addressing them.
Developing and maintaining friendships is just one vital step in this process.
