The Path to God’s Promise by Ahuva Batya Scharff
If God asked you to become a prophet, would you? Would your answer change if you knew that to do so you would face ridicule, derision, and ostracism from your community? What if the possible outcome was to save humankind?
That’s precisely what was asked of Elinor Simentov in “The Path to God’s Promise.” An ordinary, and perhaps broken, Jewish women, Elinor is asked to serve as a prophet, to warn humankind of the coming disasters related to climate change.
Elinor balks. As God tries to convince her of the value of His command, she is taken through wonderful historic events and potential disastrous futures. From the Israelite’s exodus from Egypt to a tsunami in the Pacific, Elinor experiences human and planetary events as few can.
Elinor is also shown her personal history. She looks at and re-experiences her past, creating an opportunity for healing. Elinor acknowledges the horror of early childhood trauma and her decision to recover from alcoholism, making meaning of events that once overwhelmed her.
“The Path to God’s Promise” is the chronicle of a Jewish woman’s epic journey of self-discovery and a call to each of us to look not only at our life’s path, but that of our planet.

Author Bio:
Ahuva Batya (Constance) Scharff is an internationally recognized speaker and author on the topics of addiction and trauma recovery, the psychological impacts of climate change, and women’s mental health. She is the founder of and principal investigator for the Institute for Complementary and Indigenous Mental Health Research. She is a passionate advocate for decolonizing mental healthcare and incorporating indigenous practices and ontologies into healthcare services, as well as radical social transformation to lessen the impacts of climate change. Dr. Scharff is a recent recipient of St. Lawrence University’s Sol Feinstone Humanitarian Award, honoring her service to and advocacy for those suffering from mental illness, trauma, and addiction.
In the pursuit of her research, Dr. Scharff is a lifelong explorer. A member of The Explorer’s Club, she leads expeditions around the world to investigate how some of the most remote communities address mental health. While she began her career studying the relationship between addiction and trauma, and best practices to heal both, she has shifted her attention to trauma related to climate change. Her latest research project is a year-long, seven nation tour to explore the idea of “everyday bravery.” She expects a book about that journey to be published in 2026.
“The Path to God’s Promise” is Dr. Scharff’s first novel. She chose fiction because it gave her an opportunity to sink into the “what ifs” of climate change projections. Also a student of Jewish mysticism, she brings a new perspective to climate fiction by immersing it in Jewish mysticism and perspectives. Plus, she genuinely enjoys a story with an angelic twist.
